Lo creas o no, soy un gran admirador de La Sirenita. Sinceramente, creo que es la película que provocó el renacimiento de la animación de Disney a partir de la década de 1980. Si bien La Bella y la Bestia puede ser el más puramente romántico de los clásicos modernos de Disney y El rey León el más poderosamente dramático, La Sirenita es claramente la película más agradable y encantadora de estas películas y, sin duda, captura mejor la naturaleza inocente del primer amor. Al ver a mis cuatro hijas convertirse en mujeres jóvenes, he estado al tanto de los picos y valles emocionales del amor joven. Entiendo la preocupación y el deseo del Rey Tritón de proteger a su hijo menor de una relación que enfrenta tantos obstáculos. Pero también reconozco el amor desesperado que Ariel siente por el Príncipe Eric y la pureza de su creencia de que su amor puede conquistarlo todo. ¡El amor es poderoso, el amor cautiva y el primer amor absolutamente encanta!
